中国第一部描写坦克抗战的故事。 故事发生在1937年淞沪会战至1938年台儿庄战役期间，讲述了幸存的国民党敢死队队长、立志成为战地记者的纨绔子弟、鬼灵精怪的江湖女骗子、有着机械天赋的共产党员、誓死追随坦克的未成年跟班、一心想要回老家娶媳妇的大龄庄稼汉等几个身份地位性格迥异的人，与一台日军废旧坦克为伴，从上海出发，至山东回家，穿越大半个中国，一路上冒着炮火前进的故事。最终，他们摒弃了对阶层对出身的偏见、厘清了个人与外界的纷扰恩怨、放下了对不正确思想的执着，使得整个团队获得了更为鲜活的生命力，亦成为一支令敌人闻风丧胆的队伍。前进号迎着敌人的炮火，以它独有的方式，勇敢又不失智慧，一路阔步向前。。Terminally ill Janette wants to die with dignity, but it’s not possible in the UK, where she lives.
