辽沈战役期间，解放军营长高大山率部救下农家女秋英，后来秋英寻亲来到部队，与高结为夫妻。二十年后，高大山升任守备区司令，女儿高敏参军，与一位排长相恋，被秋英棒打鸳鸯，最终高敏嫁给了高大山的老战友陈刚之子陈建国。强扭的瓜不甜，不久二人分手。儿子高权自幼顽劣，高大山把他送到部队，后来因公殉职。次子高岭闻讯哥哥牺牲，毅然放弃了报考较舒适的文艺团体，走上了哥哥曾经战斗过的哨位。时势的变迁和家庭的变故让高大山夫妇感慨万千，随着守备区编制的撤消，高大山也解甲归田，他终于回到了魂牵梦绕的家乡......。This story has a horse-race fan main character who sells clothes-hangers On one trip, a young, teenager boy relative goes with him.
